The Process of Digital Storytelling
This website explains how to produce digital multimedia presentations using a storytelling paradigm. The
story form, which is both ancient and timeless, is a familiar, universal narrative framework. It draws people
into your narrative and helps them understand and remember its contents. Storytelling methods can be applied to both fiction and non-fiction narratives.
We define a story as a narrative in which a protagonist leaves his familiar world to embark upon a quest. He enters a special world where he undergoes tests and trials in pursuit of a prize. Ultimately he triumphs and seizes the prize, then returns with it to his homeland, transformed and more powerful than before. We define media as video, still photos, the written and spoken word, location sound, music, illustrations and graphics. All of these elements can be encoded in digital form and assembled into a multimedia narrative for presentation on the web.
Following are the steps in creating a story for web-based digital multimedia but please note that the process is not strictly linear:
